CCR /

Certificate in College and Career Readiness

Program Introduction

The ongoing covid-19 pandemic and the political turmoil in Myanmar have severely impacted millions of lives in Myanmar. During these two crises, high school students have lost two entire academic years, and more than 15% of the 22 million workforces have lost their jobs. Moreover, inflation has also increased by 70% within a year. Students are amongst the most affected groups because of the postponement of their studies and the uncertainty of their job market. To tackle such an urgent and important issue, we aim to equip Myanmar’s high school students and graduates with college preparation strategies and career readiness competencies for a 21st-century higher learning and workplace.

We strongly believe that preparing them for their college and careers through innovative and comprehensive college and career readiness program will enhance their knowledge and skills. Due to the lack of college and career development in Myanmar over the past decades, CCR will become one of a kind in the country, providing high school students and graduates with well-rounded knowledge and skills. Thinking from diversity and inclusion perspectives, we decide to deliver the program entirely online to provide an equal opportunity to all students across the country.

To achieve the desired outcomes, the CCR program will empower 800 high school students and graduates through two phases: (1) a 45-hour college and career readiness training conducted by internationally-educated instructors, and (2) 24-hour college and career conversation events led by current scholars and young entrepreneurs. The University of Taxila's College and Career Readiness (CCR) program is developed based on those CCR curricula used in American high schools and will be delivered by professors and scholars who studied abroad in the U.S., China, Netherlands, Thailand, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. We believe that these activities will effectively address the shortage of qualified entry-level professionals in the job market in the next five years.

Program Objectives

The objectives of this program are to

  • prepare high school students and graduates to have competitive applications for colleges and scholarships for higher learning, and

  • provide high school students and graduates with the career competencies they need in the 21st-century workplace

To achieve these goals, the program will apply the best practices and other research-based strategies to develop an innovative and comprehensive college and career readiness curriculum to serve the most vulnerable high school students and fresh graduates who are severely impacted by the current civil war and economic downturns. Upon completing the program, the participants will have a set of basic skills they need for college preparation and career development, an opportunity to engage with current scholars and entrepreneurs for educational and career advice.
